SLIDES: Caitlin Court area of Glendale

Glendale Arizona Caitlin Court: shop and dine
Southeast of the corner of Myrtle and 59th Avenue lies the quaint, historic district of Glendale, Arizona known as Caitlin Court. Charming Craftsman bungalows built in the early 1900's have been transformed into shops and restaurants. One of my favorite stops is The Spicery Tea House.

Tree lined walks and grass yards provide a special charm to this beautiful district. Leave the hustle-bustle of the city behind as you enter this area and leisurely walk the beautiful streets. Each store and restaurant is unique, so plan to spend some time browsing and dining.

On this trip (September 2014) we met the man behind the One Man Produce Stand (slide 2 above). He was offering fresh fruits and vegetables, plus plants, in exchange for a donation for Arizona Search Dogs. Being from the Seattle area, originally, I am still struggling with growing fresh produce in Arizona. He took the time to provide much appreciated tips; he inspired me to bravely plant some herbs - a great way to get started in growing food.

Doll & Toy Museum
The new Doll And Toy Museum is a must see. It is located in the Caitlin Court area at 5847 W. Myrtle Avenue. Dolls and toys from centuries past can be seen here. The employees were extremely friendly and helpful, explaining various exhibits. Miniature houses and rooms, in their intricate, artistic detail, were a real delight to see. I especially enjoyed a turn of the century (late 1800's) fabric store that featured a wall of "bolts" of fabric. A visitor explained a kerosene view finder. Just like the ones we used as kids, this actually lit up via a kerosene chamber.

Murphy Park
Murphy Park, in downtown Glendale, offers Glendale Glitters during the Christmas season, free concerts in the summer months and numerous other activities throughout the year including the Jazz and Blues Festival and Chocolate Affaire. The Velma Teague Branch Library is within Murphy Park.

accessible travel

Accessible Bisbee Arizona Accessibility
The concert area of the park is wheelchair accessible. The walkways throughout town have been widened and are accessible from the street. Many shops have installed ramps; however not all shops are wheelchair accessible. Accessible restrooms are located on the north side of Murphy Park and outside the Visitor's Center, which is across the street on the north side of Murphy Park.

The doll and toy museum has an accessible restroom, but the doorway was quite narrow. The toilet was between the window wall and sink, with little room on either side. There was about a three foot by three foot open area off the main room in front of the toilet that would allow space for a wheelchair to be parked.

travel with children

Casual cafes, plus shops to delight children (doll shop, teddy bear shop and more in Caitlin Court), the Velma Teague Library and Murphy Park all offer fun for children. Glendale Glitters is a very popular event held each Christmas season in Murphy Park.

There are a large number of parks located within Glendale (in the area we visited as well as outside this historical area), including smaller neighborhood parks (up to 10 acres, larger community parks, and regional parks. For a complete list, go to: - parks list
