Camp Verde Fort Verde, located in Camp Verde, was established in 1865 and is now maintained as a historic site and state park. Camp Verde is a present day town with a western theme and a lot to offer. Festivals, entertainment, nearby historic sites, hotels, and outdoor recreation provide visitors with several options.

Out of Africa Animal Park, Montezuma's Castle and Well, historic Fort Verde, and Verde Hot Springs are just a few of the local attractions.

Horseback riding provides a true "western" experience for the entire family.

Traveling with children, pets or special needs

Public restrooms just outside Fort Verde State Park (go south of Hollamon off of Main) are wheelchair accessible; however private, lock-up (family-style) restrooms are not available.

Nearby Cottonwood Quality Inn has a floor level "ADA" room, with a large wheelchair accessible bathroom. However, it is NOT a roll-in shower. A shower seat is located inside the shower stall.

Out of Africa, Fort Verde and Montezuma's Castle are all nearby attractions that delight children (see links above and under "resources" below). Camp Verde offers numerous festivals and outdoor activities to delight children of all ages. For young cowboys and cowgirls, nothing compares to horseback riding (see "resources" below).

Numerous dining and hotel choices are available in the Camp Verde area. Public restrooms are located just outside Fort Verde State Park (go south of Hollamon off of Main). As you approach Fort Verde State Park, a covered picnic area is located on the right side of the road (across from the restrooms).

travel with pets  Traveling with pets Several outdoor areas are suitable for exercising your leashed pet, including the Fort Verde State Park (pets are not allowed in park buildings or museums).

For the safety of your pet, NEVER LEAVE YOUR PET UNATTENDED IN A VEHICLE. Temperatures can be extreme in Arizona.

Directions & Resources

From Phoenix or Flagstaff, take I-17. Go east on hwy 260 to Camp Verde (1 mile from hwy 260). Turn onto Main Street. The Chamber of Commerce is located at 385 Main Street, on the corner of Hollamon and Main.
